A man named "Jonathon" claimed to be a creditor, requested a lot of personal data without revealing his credentials, and appeared to be looking for someone else with the same name.
These scammers operate by answering your phone, then instantly generating multiple spoofed calls to other unsuspecting users. Telstra charges about 84 cents per call, so ten calls in a minute cost $8.40. The network can’t easily block this. One defense is to set your message bank to 101, which limits them to a single spoof call per attempt and forces them through extra menus, slowing their operation even though the charge remains 0.84 cents. If enough people report this, Telstra may act against these fraudsters.
