I recently received a very convincing text that appeared to come from a genuine Santander message, claiming they needed to verify whether I had authorised a £324.14 payment to ‘ESTATEQUANT’. It asked me to press Y or N and enter a PIN if I didn’t recognise the amount, and selecting N supposedly connected me to a “Santander” representative. I reported the scam to Santander’s phishing email to warn them.

When I contacted Santander, they confirmed they never use that method, although they did flag a recent Booking.com transaction as potentially fraudulent, leaving me uncertain about a possible data breach at Booking.com. I chose to ignore and block the caller.
