I can confirm that this is a genuine call from Nationwide mortgages.
The Nationwide Bereavement service has been supportive. However, calls from another number, supposedly my nearest branch, were hard to hear due to background noise. The line was often left with terrible music, leading me to hang up twice. This new number is unfamiliar and, after checking here, I'm even more uncertain and won't be calling back.
The caller identified herself as Sarah from Nationwide but was evasive about my personal details. If you receive such calls claiming to be from Nationwide, avoid responding as they are likely scammers.
