Expert Opinion
This number primarily serves as a legitimate contact for American Express, especially for verifying new account applications and document checks. However, scammers frequently spoof it to impersonate Amex, tricking people into sharing personal details like security questions or bank info. Legit calls only happen if you've recently applied—always cross-check by calling Amex directly via their official app or website number, never return calls to unknown numbers. Hang up immediately on unsolicited requests for info, and report suspicious activity to Amex fraud team. Key tip: Verify independently to avoid falling for spoofed scams. If no recent application, treat it as fraud.
