I got a notification claiming to be from the Post Office, but it turned out to be a scam. The details even appeared on the Royal Mail app’s home page, popped out of messages, and opened the Post Office site in my browser, which confused me. I couldn’t locate my reference number on the first page, but luckily I photographed it as I grew suspicious (I’d written everything down). When I entered the reference on the parcel‑sending page, it was marked invalid, so I called Royal Mail, and they confirmed it was a scam.

Expert Opinion
Beware of unsolicited messages claiming to be from the post office—always verify them independently. This scam mimics Royal Mail notifications, luring you to fake apps or sites to steal details. Snap a photo of any suspicious message before engaging, then contact Royal Mail directly via their official number or website, not through the provided link. If a reference number fails validation, it's likely fraudulent; report it to Action Fraud immediately. Never share personal info or pay fees for undelivered parcels—legitimate services don't demand this. Stay vigilant to protect against identity theft.
