A woman with a foreign accent claimed to be from the NHS and said she needed my details to update records, but she hung up when I kept asking why she was calling – laughable.

Ekspertvurdering
What might happen if you share personal details with an unsolicited caller? These reports reveal a pattern of deceptive tactics, often involving fake NHS or GP surveys that pivot to probing for insurance and financial information. Accents don't match claimed UK origins, and persistence despite refusals raises red flags for scams or harassment. The silent or abrupt hang-ups suggest automated or evasive operations. To stay safe, never disclose sensitive data over unexpected calls—verify independently via official channels like your GP or insurer's known number. Block the line, report to Action Fraud, and consider registering with the Telephone Preference Service to cut unwanted calls. Awareness is your best defence against such nuisances.

Appears to be an echo test.
Initially, they claimed to be conducting a life insurance survey and I naively mentioned I was covered by Nationwide with my mortgage. They keep calling from this number, and also from a private number that I tend to answer thinking it might be a doctor or hospital. Despite repeatedly asking them to stop, they persist, so I have blocked this number.
Posing as a UK HCA representative, the caller asked about GP services before steering the conversation toward life insurance and my previous insurer. When I declined, they insisted the information was required for a database, persisted through three refusals, and finally I hung up. They introduced themselves as John but lacked an English accent.
After a period of silence, a pre‑recorded voice says goodbye before the call drops; I’ve encountered similar behaviour from landlines.
