The caller claimed to be from HSBC fraud department, but after I phoned them back and spoke to someone with a Indian accent, he hung up on me, I then reported it to the official HSBC helpline

I rang back, curious if it might genuinely be First Direct, but like others, I was displeased when the person on the other end asked for details without providing any proof of authenticity. I ended the call and contacted First Direct through their official number, and they confirmed it was a legitimate fraud check. I feel much more at ease handling this through the proper FD channel rather than responding to this number, and I'd advise others to do the same to avoid potential scams.
