The Diesel‑gate mess keeps triggering call centres to ring about a car I disposed of four years ago, with at least five calls a day – utterly aggravating.

Block the number immediately to halt unwanted intrusions. These calls often mimic legitimate ones, starting with phrases like 'hello, can you hear me?' to trick you into speaking for voice cloning scams. Many reports link them to Dieselgate compensation pitches for old car finance, even if you've ditched the vehicle years ago. Stay vigilant: never confirm personal details or say 'yes' out loud. Report to your phone provider or Action Fraud for investigation. If they persist, consider apps that filter spam calls. Silence or hang up swiftly—don't engage.

Since the number was unfamiliar, I let it go to voicemail; a British‑accented woman said she couldn’t hear me and would ring back. I’ve blocked and reported it.
There’s no doubt it’s a scam – my voicemail played a female voice apologising for not hearing me and promising to call later.
Like other reports, the caller said "hello, can you hear me" before dropping quiet – likely trying to capture voice data. I've blocked it.
When I answered, only silence greeted me – clearly a scam or phishing attempt. I've blocked the number.
Got a call asking if I was owed money on a car finance deal – blocked it straight away. Cheers.
I received a ring from this line; the woman asked "hello, can you hear me?" and fell silent when I asked her identity.
Looks like a fraudulent attempt.
I didn't pick up because the number was unknown; thanks to the “Who called me” feature, I can now track these nuisance calls – thank you! Mrs D, South Wales.
Looks like a scammer, typical time of year, innit?
I'm unable to answer right now as I'm at work, so I've blocked the number.
It appeared as spam/scam in the log despite no ring; I've blocked and reported it.
