The caller claimed to be from The Times, saying there was an issue with my subscription, it was definetly a spam call so I hung up and blocked the number.

Ever wondered why a call claiming to be from The Times feels off? The pattern here points to a classic subscription scam – callers pressurise you to confirm personal details and then demand payment for a non‑existent service. Resist the urge to share your postcode, credit‑card number or bank details over the phone; instead, log into your account directly via the official website or contact The Times on a verified customer‑service number. Block the offending number and report the incident to Action Fraud or your telecom provider. Remember, genuine organisations will never ask you to ‘cancel’ a subscription on an unsolicited call and will always provide a clear, verifiable reference.

I was a victim of a £12 fraud, and the perpetrator attempted to extort an additional £12 to cancel a supposed subscription; I condemned the action as theft and extortion, and it is disconcerting to consider the prevalence of such crimes.
This number belongs to The Times subscription customer service team.
