Avis d’expert
The 0161 856 6300 line is widely recognised as the outbound number used by Greater Manchester Police. Most callers report a short, one‑off ring and no voicemail, which is typical for police follow‑ups on incidents or complaints. However, scammers do spoof police IDs, so always verify the purpose before handing over any personal details. If you weren’t expecting a call, let it go to voicemail and then call the official non‑emergency line (101) yourself. Never call back the number that rang you, as it usually won’t accept inbound calls. Keep a record of the call time and any reference numbers you’re given.

I recieved two calls today (05/01/17), and each time I answered, there was no response, I tried calling back, but it says 'this number dont accept incoming calls'
Today, I missed a call from 01618566300. I tried calling back, but it didn’t connect. After Googling, I found others had the same issue and didn’t know who was calling. According to comments here, it might be the police. Should I call 101 and ask, or just wait to see if they call back?
This number is from Manchester traffic police regarding an accident. The number doesn't accept incoming calls.
This is NOT the police station in Altincham.
Fake police call received
I received two missed calls from this number, with a voicemail claiming they’d received a 999 call from my number and to call back if it was an emergency. I’m in Liverpool, not Manchester, and I definitely didn’t dial 999 – my phone records prove it. Very strange!
