The person who rang from this number initially asked for someone who doesn't exist, and when they rang again, they claimed to be from Active Life Insurance, but they couldn't provide a valid reason for having my number and became uncooperative.

Avis d’expert
The 0161 856 6300 line is widely recognised as the outbound number used by Greater Manchester Police. Most callers report a short, one‑off ring and no voicemail, which is typical for police follow‑ups on incidents or complaints. However, scammers do spoof police IDs, so always verify the purpose before handing over any personal details. If you weren’t expecting a call, let it go to voicemail and then call the official non‑emergency line (101) yourself. Never call back the number that rang you, as it usually won’t accept inbound calls. Keep a record of the call time and any reference numbers you’re given.

Very polite person
It appears that scammers have managed to trick the system into making it seem like the Greater Manchester Police are calling from 01618566300, but in reality, they are dialling from 02037693336, which is a known scammer number, I noticed this by checking the message on my answer machine.
Very excellent service
I keep getting calls from ignorant individuals making false 'welfare' claims, despite me explaining facts like the high unemployment rate among autistic people. They waste time that could be spent on others. If you're disabled and see this number, be cautious.

Seems like a prank, doesn't it, when they let the phone ring a few times before hanging up. I ushally dont answer calls within 3 rings. No message was left, and I only confirmed it was a police number after I couldn't call them back and found this online. I had previously dialled 101 regarding an incident I reported yesterday. The operator asked me to explain, then accused me of interupting after I answered their question. I was always taught to respond to a police officer's direct question.
It was my local police station. They left a voicemail with a contactable number
The comments here suggest that calls to 101 might be monitored. I called 101 to report something, and they didn't ask for my number—it probably showed up on their system. Twenty minutes later, I got a call from this number that rang twice and then stopped.

Apparently, this number belongs to GMP and will be displayed regardless of the specific police department making the call. To return the call, you'll need the direct number of the officer, as the displayed number does not acept incoming calls.
