Claimed affiliation with our energy provider, stating our meter got swapped with another's account! Third different number they've used. 3 times I've pegged them as fraudsters!

Fraudsters posing as British Gas representatives
Posing as Total Gas & Power for meter readings but with wrong address details; rang three times in under two hours.
Absolutely maddening fraud attempt!
A lady with an Asian tone phoned, and the connection seemed outdoors with wind noise, which seemed odd. She claimed to verify a supply number but provided a postcode for some unrelated address. I challenged her repeatedly, saying it reeked of fraud, and she insisted it was straightforward, just needing confirmation due to a data leak. When I mentioned searching the number online and finding scam reports, she ended the call
Con related to utility charges; they asked me to verify an account number, suggesting my bill might have been confused with someone else's.
Fraudsters posing as energy provider's meter team, alleging a billing address error and requesting postcode, meter details, and latest invoice info. They end the call if questioned.
Phoned pretending to be British Gas—first about a postcode billing error, then a meter issue. Got increasingly aggressive and impolite during the conversation
A bloke rang to verify our MPAN (two listed on account, wanted the right one) for accurate billing. Lately, private numbers have been asking similar stuff, so I suspected a con right away. Explained I knew it was all sorted via our online portal and I'd reach out to our supplier myself about his claims, then I hung up. Sure enough, same number rang back within a minute, pretending to be from customer support and claiming I'd contacted them. Bunch of liars, not trustworthy in the slightest.
They phoned us (5 March 2025) acting as Octopus, spouting nonsense about faulty meter readings in our area and bill details sent to incorrect emails. It felt phony; then they requested our meter serial, so I demanded our account number, which they couldn't provide. Bogus, fraudulent—steer clear entirely.
Keeps ringing, pretending to be our utility supplier, gets aggressive when I refuse to share details.
Called pretending to be from Pozitive Energy, harrassing me to connect with my Accounts colleague. Kept ringing despite knowing she wasn't around. Told her to quit calling as I had other lines waiting, and she turned snappy, so we blocked it.
Received multiple calls. Extremely impolite and offensive. Used abusive language and falsely claimed to be from British Gas regarding meter readings.
Constant calls that raise doubts about them being 'Eon Next'. Multiple staff members have claimed 'we think you're a scam', yet the calls persist. They possess our meter point number, though I didn't verify its accuracy. When I suggested calling 'Eon Next' directly and asking to be connected if they provided their name, the caller suddenly pretended to not hear me, saying 'hello, hello, hello' before hanging up. I contacted 'Eon Next', who confirmed they haven't been trying to reach us about our account, which is in good standing. Definitely a scam.
This number keeps ringing our business, claiming to be from British Gas. The lady asked if we have our gas supply with them since she could see we have our electricity. It's unsettling how much they know about our energy contract. I mentioned the numerous scam reports on who-called.co.uk, and she insisted she was 100% from British Gas, saying they'd taken over the number. They call several times a week. I told them genuine British Gas would put queries in writing.
A man with an Indian accent called my business phone, claiming to be from Octopus Energy and asking for my meter number. I immediately suspected a scam. Since it was a slow, rainy day, I decided to waste his time by pretending to look for my energy bill. He stayed on the line for about 15 minutes before realizing I was stringing him along and got annoyed.
They claimed to be from British Gas Lite when they phoned. We've already blocked 01733 242068 earlier today, and now they're using this one. Planning to block this and 01923 807786 too, as mentioned in another comment. Fingers crossed that’s the last of their numbers!
Pretended to be from British Gas, asking for a supply number. Almost certainly a scam.
A woman with an asian accent rang this morning, claiming to be from our energy supplier, Total Energy, but she asked for information they should already have, so it was obviously a scam, thanks to this site, we were prepared
Following a call from this 0161 number, I became suspicious of the female caller's intentions, particularly when she claimed to be from Total Energy and requested our last bill to verify information, which seemed unusual.
A man with an Indian accent called from this number, claiming to be from Yue Energy. He asked about my renewal and requested our new supplier's details to send a termination letter. DO NOT SHARE ANY INFORMATION – IT'S A SCAM.
Pretended to be from Octopus Energy, knowing detailed account information but clearly not genuine. They called repeatedly, refusing to take no for an answer even after I said I’d contact Octopus directly.
Be cautious as they're now using 01923807786. This morning, I received a call from the same man pretending to be from British Gas accounts. I mentioned I had googled the previous number and reported it as a scam, and he abruptly ended the call.
The number 01618189790 rang today, claiming to be from British Gas, but when they asked to speak to the accountant, I put them on hold and checked this number, wont be interacting with them again, call blocked
They didn’t say anything at first. Upon answering, they claimed I had an account with them. When I asked who they were, they repeated the same thing, mentioning Total and wanting to speak to the account holder. I confirmed I was the account holder and asked for the account password. They couldn’t provide it and stuck to their script. I asked again for the password, and they replied that they only dealt with meter readings. I told them I couldn't speak to them without the password, and they hung up.
They said they were from British Gas, claiming another meter reading had been linked to my postcode. They asked for my meter number and postcode but couldn’t provide any details about my recent bill or even knew my email. The caller had a strong Indian accent and introduced himself as Scott Gibson. When I insisted I’d verify the call with British Gas, he objected. I told him genuine calls would be logged on my account. I shared no information.
Received aggressive calls about our electricity contracts. They kept ringing despite being told we weren’t interested, then resorted to abusive language!
A call was received from an individual claiming to be from the British Gas metre reading department, reading from a script, and no details were provided.
Michelle from 'EDF' rang me from this number. She told me to fetch my latest bill. When I requested the invoice number, she became quite impolite. I made it clear that if she needed details, she’d have to provide my invoice and account numbers so I could verify her identity. She hung up twice. She called back, insisting I check my bill. Realising I wasn’t cooperating, she hung up again.
Claimed to be from EDF, discussing meter reading issues. Despite having smart meters, these calls have continued for five years. I sometimes engage playfully.
