An unexpected call appeared on my landline, which has a call-blocking feature. Recognising the 0161 area code, I assumed it might be an old acquaintance from Manchester. The caller, Maria, addressed me by name and mentioned they assist in lowering utility bills with government funding. I declined a visit from their local agent due to prior commitments. She offered to send literature and suggested I contact them after reviewing it. Upon reading reviews, I’ve now blocked the number.

Opinión del experto
Multiple users have reported receiving unsolicited calls from a female caller with a northern English accent, claiming to represent a company called "Direct Energy" or similar. The callers offer to reduce energy bills by up to 35% without changing providers, often suggesting a representative will visit the home. However, the details provided are vague or contradictory, raising suspicions of a scam. Common signs include poor explanations, evasive answers, and claims that sound too good to be true. Callers frequently hang up if pressed for specifics. It's advised to block these numbers, avoid engaging with the callers, and conduct your own research into energy-saving options rather than relying on unsolicited offers. Always be cautious with unverified calls and never allow strangers into your home.
