Expert Opinion
Ever wondered why you keep waking up to a dubious warranty call at dawn? The pattern points to a classic scam masquerading as Domestic & General, targeting appliance owners with fabricated insurance renewals. Protect your privacy by refusing to share personal details, hanging up promptly, and adding the number to your call‑block list. Register the nuisance with your phone provider and report it to the Information Commissioner’s Office and Action Fraud. Keep a log of call times and content; this aids investigations and helps others spot the scheme. Remember, legitimate companies never demand payment or policy details over an unsolicited early‑morning call.

An individual with an Indian accent, claiming to be from Domestic and General, contacted me about renewing my washing machine insurance. The caller addressed me by name, which led me to repeatedly inquire about their identity. Eventually, they claimed to be discussing my expiring washing machine warranty. When I asked for the model, they incorrectly said ‘Hoover’—I insisted they were mistaken, as I didn't own a Hoover machine and labeled them as scammers, instructing them not to contact me again. I did have a Hoover machine, but that was over 20 years ago, probably even 30.
