Avis d’expert
Scammers are phoning relentlessly, often pretending to be from EE or pushing fake tax rebates and PPI claims to snag personal details. Punters are rightly furious about these persistent calls, especially with accents from South Africa making it hard to follow. Block the number straight away and never share info like NI numbers or bank details. Report to Action Fraud to help shut these nuisances down. If they keep ringing, consider a call blocker app for extra peace. Stay sharp—legit outfits don't pressure for quick personal data over the blower.

At 11.30 am this morning I was hit with six calls from unknown numbers plus this one. I blocked it and I'm absolutely fed up and angry 😡 with the nonstop ringing all day, night and weekends!

The caller had a South African accent and I couldn't make out his words; he claimed it was about a tax rebate, but I told him I wasn’t interested.
The number was not recognised.
The call claimed to be from Gladstone Brooks, offering a tax refund on a PPI payment before transferring me to another firm they said was collecting on their behalf. They asked for personal details for “security”, which revealed it was a scam. No bank or NI numbers were given. Completely avoid – I felt foolish despite my banking background and now warn others.
The number keeps calling me, driving me mad; I tried blocking it but the calls persist.
An individual with a South African accent claimed to represent Pockex, alleging a PPI claim against Halifax and possible tax owed by HMRC. They asked for my name, phone, email, NI number and wanted to send a text to sign documents. When I requested postal copies, they warned it might delay or invalidate the claim. I told the caller the call felt fraudulent, noted they tried to redirect me to a website, and then I hung up.
