Someone was impersonating British Gas, whining about billing errors and being downright pushy – proper rude, cheers.

Γνώμη ειδικού
Scammers impersonating energy firms like British Gas, Eon, and Octopus are behind these calls, peddling fake billing errors or meter issues to extract personal details. Rudeness and threats of cut-offs scream fraudulent intent, as genuine providers rarely cold-call like this. Hang up immediately if you spot the pushy tactics—never share supply numbers or confirm info. Report to Action Fraud for tracking, and register with the Telephone Preference Service to cut unwanted calls. Wasting their time, as one chap did, can disrupt their ops, but stay safe and don't engage long-term. These nuisances target businesses too, so vigilance pays off across the board.

A call centre based in Asia claimed to be Eon, saying there were billing errors and requesting the supply number to update the account. I kept the caller busy for over ten minutes, telling him I knew it was a scam and that Eon wouldn't call out of the blue. He warned the call was recorded and threatened billing responsibility if I didn’t cooperate, even mentioning engineers would cut us off for being rude. I explained UK billing regulations and said I’d contact Eon directly. He persisted, but when I started laughing he finally gave up.
They called, claiming to be from Octopus about a meter change or potential disconnection – clearly nonsense from scammers.
They rang me claiming to be from Eon about a postcode mistake on my bill; I couldn’t talk, they called back an hour later, and a quick Google search showed it looked pretty spammy, mate.
I have no idea.
A caller pretended to be British Gas, saying our supply number didn’t match our address – sounded pushy, yeah.
They said they were calling from British Gas, claiming our supply number didn’t line up with the address – sounded dodgy, mate.
They claimed to be EDF Energy and aggressively insisted they were my current supplier, which is false.
