Two calls came through a few minutes ago, likely because I missed the first. The number was unfamiliar and appeared as telemarketing on my phone, so I let it go.

Expert Opinion
Receiving unsolicited calls from unknown numbers, especially those mentioning unpaid bills or policy changes, often signals a potential fraud attempt. In one case, a caller posing as Aviva Insurance tried to trick the recipient into sending a cheque to a private address linked to an unrelated company, which is a classic scam tactic. Another report describes aggressive shouting when challenged about bill payments, heightening the red flags. Hang up immediately on such calls—do not engage or share details. Block the number and report it to Action Fraud to help protect others. Verify any legitimate claims directly with your provider using official contact info, never the caller's details. Stay vigilant to avoid falling for these deceptive ploys.

A call claimed to be from Aviva Insurance, saying my house and contents policy had been reviewed and the premium reduced to £650.00. Pretending to be a scam baiter, I supplied false bank details and was asked to mail a cheque to 25 Streatfield Ave, London E6 2JZ, made out to Garantix Ltd, a health‑food distributor. They followed up a few days later asking where the cheque was, and I told them I had changed my mind, which upset them.
A caller rang five minutes ago, demanding I pay my bills and got angry when I called them a scammer, shouting at me.
