Another Indian woman rang on a different number yesterday (01159758218) asking to speak to the director, didn’t say who she was, and hung up when I said they were unavailable. She’s called before pretending to be from Scottish Power about renewing our account.

Opinia expertului
Always verify unsolicited calls by hanging up and contacting the company directly via their official website or known number—never use details provided by the caller. These persistent energy scams impersonate providers like British Gas or EDF, often with Indian accents and aggressive tactics, claiming meter issues or renewals to gain access or personal data. Block the number immediately and report to Action Fraud or your phone provider to curb harassment. Insist on written confirmation for any legitimate service, and consider registering with the Telephone Preference Service to reduce unwanted calls. Stay vigilant; scammers rotate numbers to evade blocks, but awareness prevents falls for fake threats or persistent pressure.

Definitely a scam pretending to be EDF. Right?
Looks like a scam from “Smart Energy”, delivered with the usual Indian accent. Right?
Someone impersonated British Gas – a clear scam.
They've been bombarding us with calls and threats about cutting off our electricity, even using numbers like 01482564155 and 01216145551, and they just won’t take no for an answer. Mate.
The caller claimed an issue with our gas meter, yet there’s no gas supply on the property.
The tone and attitude matched the description below – the caller claimed a discrepancy between our meter reading and bill, insisted an engineer was needed, yet we have no gas account; when I requested a written authorisation, they became aggressive and hung up.
Every day he rings, claiming to be our energy supplier and saying we’ve signed up for a renewal we never did. He got rude, shouted when we told him we’d had enough, and kept calling despite our clear requests to stop. We told him we’d call EDF ourselves and that a genuine rep wouldn’t mind. He flared up, saying they can’t help because they aren’t sales – obvious scam. Cheers.
Another similar case: an Asian‑accented man claiming to be from British Gas, asking for a meter reading we never needed. I said no, hung up, and he called back on a second number – I recognised the voice. If a call starts with ‘Ma’am’, you can bet it’s a scam nowadays. Mate. (Other number: 01914472610)
A caller pretended to be our energy supplier; the call was a waste of time and has been reported to the phishing team.
Got a call from a chap pretending to be from British Gas; I hung up and blocked him as soon as he asked for my name – business line, mate.
Beware – a persistent scam from a utility firm. They rang us every day from 16/06/2025 to 20/06/2025, then again on 23/06/2025. After I answered and hung up, the same Indian lady called back on a different number (02072741052). Best to steer clear, mate.
Got a call about a meter renewal, the fraudster said they were from British Gas head office and read out all our details. After Googling the number and spotting the scam, I hung up. They kept ringing from 01784 842300, super persistent. British Gas will never read your info over the phone, mate.
Many calls claim to be from 'British Gas', even rattling off account numbers, site addresses and meter details. At first I bought it, especially for business site accounts in construction, but I’ve learned they never use the same number twice and are brutally rude, aggressive, and full of threats. Cheers.
He pretended to be from EDF, but you could hear a call‑centre buzzing in the background. Right?
Received a call from a woman with an Indian accent claiming to be from EDF this time, trying to set up a meter‑reader appointment. Sounded dodgy, right?
Our office received a call to arrange a meter check; after the employee hung up, the caller redialed from a different number that traced to a Thai takeaway – clearly a scam.
A woman claiming to be from British Gas wanted to schedule a meter check; after I said I was busy, she called back from another number and kept persisting.
