Residing in Montevideo, Uruguay, I also fell victim to this scam when I received a call on my answering machine. Curiosity led me to investigate further by calling the number back, only to be greeted by a recorded message with no one available to speak. Interestingly, this is not my first encounter with such scams, having previously received a message claiming I had won $10,000 and a Toyota vehicle, which was sent to my computer's modem. I took the necessary steps to report the incident, underscoring the importance of caution with these types of messages. In response to Mary's query, it is indeed possible to report such incidents, as I have done myself, although tracking down the perpetrators can be challenging due to their tactics of using disposable cell phone chips and randomly selecting numbers to call.
A similar experience occurred yesterday when I arrived home to a message stating I had won a trip and should return the call to the number saved in my phone, 00954985479. However, upon calling back, I was informed that the selected phone number was incorrect, which seemed unusual.
Today, I received a call from this number, and I am from Montevideo, Uruguay.
The caller's behavior was deemed to be of a vile nature, originating from a Venezuelan number.
