رأي الخبراء
Unexpectedly, these inbound calls masquerade as Anthem Blue Cross outreach, yet they routinely press for birthdates, Social Security numbers, and other personal information without proper verification. Callers often claim to offer preventive‑care programs, but the lack of a clear company name and the use of a generic callback number are red flags. Protect yourself by hanging up, contacting your insurer through the official website or card‑listed phone, and adding the number to your phone’s block list. Report the incident to the FTC and your state’s consumer protection agency. Remember, legitimate insurers will never demand sensitive data over an unsolicited call.

A woman claiming to be from Anthem Blue Cross initiated a call, offering a health program, but her attempts to obtain my date of birth raised suspicions
Considering the potential legitimacy of the call from Anthem, it's crucial to acknowledge the broad scope of health and its vulnerability to identity theft, which could have severe consequences on one's well-being due to stress. By requesting personal identifying information on an unsolicited call, Anthem inadvertently conditions individuals to be less cautious, making them potential targets for scammers. It's surprising that, with the abundance of intelligent personnel at Anthem, they haven't devised alternative methods for verification, such as asking the recipient to call back using the number on their membership card or requesting the membership number, thus avoiding the need for sensitive information. Perhaps if they focused less on evading claims, they could dedicate more resources to protecting identities.
