Expert Opinion
Picture this: a call from 866‑516‑6961 flashes on your screen, and the voice on the other end claims you owe money. The caller identifies themselves as United Recovery Systems, a known debt collection agency that often uses skip tracing to locate relatives or outdated contacts. The safest move is to hang up before sharing any personal details, then request a written validation of the debt within 30 days. If the call persists, add the number to your phone’s block list, file a complaint with the FTC, and consider sending a certified cease‑and‑desist letter. Staying skeptical and documenting each interaction can protect your credit and privacy.

At 8:22AM, I received an alleged debt collection call, which I suspected was a phishing attempt. The representative asked for my birthdate, but when I told them to provide it since they should have the information, they were unable to do so. Similarly, they requested the last four digits of my social security number, but again, they couldn't provide it themselves. Throughout the conversation, the individual was rude and continuously stated that the call was being recorded, insisting it wasn't a phishing call, despite their inability to provide any relevant information.
