I received two calls with the same reference number, claiming it was regarding a request in my name, with different callers providing the same reference number, AG4n8, similar to a call from last year.
It turned out that the call was from American Express, and I had indeed received a card from them.
Confirmation was made that the call was from Amex, as a new card application was pending and required verification, including providing a SS# for approval.

I returned the call, and it seemed legitamate, but I am still skepticall about their intentions
