Expert Opinion
Surprisingly, many people mistake this 855‑522‑7663 line for a random scam when it often belongs to Capital One’s application‑fraud team. The call typically follows a recent credit‑card application and asks for personal details to verify identity. Before sharing social security, date of birth, or a driver’s license, hang up and call the number printed on the back of your card or log into your online account to confirm the request. If the caller cannot provide a verifiable reference number, treat it as suspicious. Always use official channels, monitor your credit reports, and place a fraud alert if you suspect misuse.

Upon reviewing this thread, it becomes apparent that approximately 35% of the entries, roughly seven posts, exhibit characteristics of scam promotions. A significant indication of a scam is when callers request personal information, particularly if they claim to represent a major financial institution. To avoid potential scams, it is advisable to only use official contact numbers provided in written communications or on the back of credit or debit cards. It is suspected that these fraudulent activities are orchestrated by a white-collar gang operating in either the US or Canada, and such incidents have been ongoing for some time.
This is undoubtedly a fraud, considering that the same person answers every time, the number is not valid according to Google, and if you have a correctly set up account with Capital One, they would contact you through multiple channels in case of a fraudulent application, leading me to advise others to verify their credit reports and consider adding a PIN to their social security number for added security.
