Opinia expertului
Recent spikes in complaints reveal a wave of texts and calls from the 833‑431‑3109 line that repeatedly cite a “Thomas Hughes” from a so‑called Mediation Department. Most recipients report that the messages contain personal data, demand immediate contact, and claim a debt or legal action. Regulators classify this pattern as a classic scam—often masquerading as a debt collector to intimidate victims. Best practice: do not return the call, block the number, and forward the message to the FTC’s spam‑report portal ([email protected]). Verify any alleged debt directly with the original creditor and consider a credit freeze if personal identifiers were disclosed.

If debt collectors have your name, they dont necesarily need your phone number to contact you, thanks to the previous administration, they can now text and email you, as well as call
Upon receiving a text from this number, several red flags became apparent. The use of my full name in capital letters suggested a generic, automated message. It's essential to remember that legitimate communications, especially those involving debt or financial matters, will typically be conducted through official channels, such as mail, rather than text or email.

After receiving the same message as others, I managed to get in touch with the caller, who was extremely rude and already had access to my personal information, including my SSN. They claimed I owed money to a non-existent company, which is alarming.
