Upon receiving an automated call from the number (800)824-9289, I was unsure due to unfamiliarity with the last four digits of the card, so I contacted AMEX customer service at (800) 926-0143, and after being redirected to the fraud department, I discovered that there had been attempted overseas charges in both GB and Mass, confirming the legitimacy of the initial call, which led to my card being cancelled and shredded, hopefully this information is helpful
Apparently it's legit, i recieved a call from this number after my card got denied in CA, funny thing is i never used my card there, so the fraud alert kicked in, a minor inconveniance for peace of mind, but a good thing i called the number on the back of my card

After receiving a call from this number, I verified its legitimacy by contacting American Express directly and was impressed by their prompt attention to a potential security issue.
Throughout the day, i keep recieving calls from this number, I didnt answer because I dont answer 800 calls, so I googled instead and found out it's a legit AE number from the fraud dept, but I dont have an AE account, thats the thing.

After being contacted by this number, I proactively called American Express using the number on the back of my card, and they informed me that unauthorized charges had been made to my account, including a small charge at the Apple Store and a subsequent attempt to purchase an Air Canada ticket for $365.

Apparently, the 336 number is asociated with a local center in greensboro nc which is 336, unfortunatly it somtimes appeare on the id, but the 8008249289 number they left is a legitamate message, also it state you can call the customer service number on your card if you didnt want to call the number they left, a fraudster wouldnt tell you to call the customer service number on card.

Notably, it's a 'account password' and not a login password for your amex web account, they setup these 'account passwords' so that if a theif gets your card, they wont be able to acces your account when they contact amex. Just a FYI, these are two compleatly differnt things.
