Calls that pretend to be from the Social Security Administration usually reference a vague benefit issue and press for an immediate callback. Most voicemails use a generic name, an extension, and a request for personal or banking details, which matches known scam patterns. The real SSA never initiates contact by phone; they send written notices first. If you get such a call, hang up, do not provide any information, and verify the claim by logging into your My SSA account or calling the official SSA number from the agency’s website. Blocking the number and reporting it to the FTC can help curb future attempts.
