Expert Opinion
Imagine getting a 3 a.m. text that claims fraud on your Sam’s Club card and tells you to call 1‑800‑420‑5598. That exact wording shows up in many consumer reports linked to Synchrony Bank’s alerts. The number itself is legitimate for real Synchrony inquiries, but scammers often spoof it to harvest personal data. If you receive such a message, don’t reply Y/N and never share card or Social Security numbers. Verify the alert by logging into your account online or calling the number on the back of your card. Report suspicious calls to the FTC and your issuer, and consider blocking the number.
