Expert Opinion
Block the number and report it to the FTC right away. These calls use a scripted script that pretends to be a legitimate debt collector, but they never provide a company name, reference number, or verification details. Hang up if you’re unsure, avoid sharing personal or financial info, and add the offending caller to your phone’s call blocking list. Keep a log of dates, times, and any digits spoken, then submit the details to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and your state's attorney general. Regularly review your credit reports for unexpected activity and consider a credit freeze if you suspect identity theft. Prompt reporting helps protect you and others from similar scams.
