If you get a call like this, hang up immediately and verify the number through official channels—don’t rely on the caller ID. Block the number on your phone and report it to the FTC or your carrier. Stay wary of any unsolicited demand for money or data, especially when the caller claims to be the IRS or another government office.

When I returned the call, they immediately hung up after I expressed my suspicion that it was a scam
