Expert Opinion
When a call flashes a government agency name and then redirects you to a 202‑510‑9912 line, it’s almost always a fraud attempt. The scammers borrow official logos, spoof 800 numbers, and pressure you for personal data or cash. Never share Social Security digits, bank info, or payment until you independently verify the source via official websites or known contact numbers. Hang up, block the number, and report the incident to the FTC or your state consumer protection office. Keep a log of the call details – time, script, and any caller ID quirks – to help authorities track patterns.
