Marathon is not a service, app, website or product but rather refers to the long-distance foot race that covers 42.195 kilometers (26 miles and 385 yards). The marathon can be completed by running or with run/walk strategy and there are also wheelchair divisions for participants who use wheelchairs. More than 800 marathons take place around the world each year on open courses usually of this distance. Marathon was first held at Athens in Greece during its revival Olympic Games in 1896 as it commemorates an ancient Greek soldier's legendary feat where he ran from Marathon to Athens - about forty kilometers- bringing news of Athenian victory over Persians before expiring due to exhaustion upon arrival at his destination city center after delivering such important information which later became known as "Battle of Marathon."
